Restart Racing

General

WYC is committed to providing competitive sailboat racing experiences to the maximum extent possible within the prevailing governmental guidelines, while keeping the members and wider community safe from COVID-19.

We’re all hopeful the 2021 season will be closer to “normal”, but are realistic enough to know there will be some restrictions. The following explains what we have planned.

Activities while Racing

All racing activities are controlled by the COVID-19 Organized Sports Practice and Games Guidance for Youth and Adults (“Organized Sports Guidelines”) They allow racing, with the following restrictions.

Number of Participants:
The Organized Sports Guidelines limit the maximum of participants on a given course to 250 people. WYC will comply with this as follows;

  • Thursday – fleets will be divided in two separate courses – See NOR/SI. Historic participation records, and anticipated crew size show two courses will be well within this limit.
  • All other events -  Fleets will race on one course. Historic participation records, and anticipated crew size show a single course will be well within this limit.

Crew Size - Organized sports guidelines show “full team” may be used.  Additionally, a crew should be considered a participant pod. Members of each pod should minimize transferring to another pod. As a consequence, the Crew Looking for a Ride table is suspended.

Masks

  • Masks are strongly recommended while racing or practicing – WYC has interpreted this to mean from the time a boat leaves dock to participate in a scheduled race until the time a boat returns to the dock after a scheduled race. This expands the RRS definition of racing.
  • Masks are REQURIED when within 6-feet of others while within common areas (Patio unless seated at a table, lawn, and docks). This is a requirement for scheduled race days, and courtesy to other members on non-race days. This requirement is regardless of a member’s vaccination or natural immunity status.
  • Masks are REQUIRED while inside the club building

Daily Check-in:
The Organized Sport Guidelines require participants to register. WYC has determined scanning the QR code, entering your information, and submitting the form, complies with this requirement.

Activities While at the WYC property

Activities on the WYC property are predominantly controlled by the Guidance for Outdoor Recreation and Facilities. These guidelines allow use of the WYC property as follows.

Masks while on WYC property:
The Executive Order requiring face coverings in certain circumstances prevails (EO 20-81). WYC has interpreted this requirement as follows.

  • Masks REQUIRED – when within 6-feet of others while outside in common areas (docks, lawn, patio, adjacent to the notice board, etc.) and not seated on the patio. This requirement is as a common courtesy to fellow club members, and is regardless of your own vaccine or health status.
  • Mask REQUIRED – when within 6-feet of others while inside the building, except while seated at a table.
  • Masks recommended – at all other times when within 6-feet of others.

Use of the Patio and Deck:
The patio and deck may be used for social gatherings of up to 50 people. WYC has interpreted this to mean a TOTAL of 50 people may be seated on the patio and deck at one time EXCEPT FOR THURSDAY EVENING. The patio and deck area will be closed for Thursday evenings as it is impractical to limit use to 50-people. Tables are spaced more than 6-feet apart to promote social distancing between groups. Each person using the patio, at any time, will be expected to scan the QR code to register their presence – similar to the restaurant requirement.

Use of the club building:
The bathrooms remain accessible at all times. The club building may be used for social gatherings of up to 15 people. WYC has interpreted this to mean a TOTAL of 15 people my use club building at one time EXCEPT FOR THURSDAY EVENING. The seating area inside will be closed for Thursday nights as it is impractical to limit use to 15-people. Tables are spaced more than 6-feet apart to promote social distancing between groups. Each person using the club building, at any time, will be expected to scan the QR code to register their presence.

Water, Pop, Beer:

  • The water dispenser in the lobby is available – members are reminded this is a no-touch unit, and reminded to stay 6-feet way from someone using the dispenser.
  • The pop dispenser in the kitchen is available – please minimize congestion in the confined space of the kitchen.
  • The beer keg is not available – so as to minimize congestion in the vicinity of the keg, and reduce gathering on the patio.
