GROWING EXCELLENCE IN WOMEN'S KEELBOAT RACING

Over the last 50 plus + years, the Wayzata Yacht Club has been a strong proponent of women in sailing. Today, about one-third of our members (172 members) are active women racers. Our “Women at The Helm” Series originated in 1987 and is today averaging 28 boats. We have sent numerous teams to the prestigious Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship and two of our Commodores in the last 10 years have been female.

In 2018, we are raising the bar for women's sailing programs.  We are inviting all women to the 1st annual Women’s Midwest Women’s Keelboat Championship, to be held on the beautiful waters of Lake Minnetonka!  The race is meant to be competitive and women-helmed boats that also include women crew.

The Sonar fleet has generously agreed to make their boats available to teams that wish to compete. Please contact Marty Fossen for additional charter information.  We are also welcoming Sonars from other clubs to participate.

We will make every attempt to get all interested women out on the water to participate. If you would like to compete as a skipper or crew, please contact ____________(TBD) to be placed with a team.

We will also make every effort to house out-of-town teams to help defray costs. Please contact Maria Maldonado for housing assistance.

The event has the following proposed schedule:

  • Friday, September 14: Clinic
  • Saturday, September 15: Racing
  • Sunday, September 16: Racing (no warning after 1200)

The entry fee is only $200 per boat if paid by August 15, 2018 (after that, the fee is $250 per boat).  This includes social activities for four (4) boat members!  Additional social tickets are available for $20 per attendee.
